Oy Halloween.

Why do wait until now to let it all hang out?

You know it’s weird how the campy embrace of psychics, readers and the like lies only in October. You know you want to dig this all year ‘round. Many of you do but there’s still so much shame surrounding things that embrace OTHER THINGS.

Business is up during this time of year for event based readings. Group readings, psychic fairs…..the occasional seance (a service I do not offer. I’ll write about that another time) are all the rage October 1-31st.

As this is a business, I do have clients all year round. I do events here and there through the 12 months. But I must say there is a joy to October as a professional that I have to admit to. I suppose anything that celebrates us as humans, we’ll enjoy. And there is a strong witch community that of course embraces all the things that at one time were allowed and open and understood about the metaphysical that society has deemed silly and inauthentic. As we see the questioning of the Catholic church and other organized, powerful religions we’re getting a bit more steam behind it again.

I’m not a fan of the mainstream take on all things “spiritual” that take other cultures and minimize their meaning for others (just look at your own background. EVERYBODY EVERY CULTURE had witches) but if a lonely kid finds a pack of tarot cards or a candle in some gift shop and it makes them feel powerful finally—-gets them to research our area of expertise——I’m all in.

I won’t go into the roots of this upcoming holiday. It’s not my culture and for the books as witchy as I may be I’m not a witch though I respect my witch brethren unquestionably.

Next week I’ll write about what to look for in a reader. Both for yourself and in general. I’ll most likely talk about what I look for in a reader for myself and let you decide what works for you. Honestly, how do you know what house of worship to tend to? And do you need one? Where do you find your community? Most importantly, do they have a sense of humor?
