I was talking to a friend the other day and he mentioned that though he didn’t really sit in the esoteric idea that this time of year made us one step closer to our ancestors, this year in particular he felt “the thinning of the veil".
Yes, I think more people in their need for anything that vaguely resembles things that make sense or give us answers or just make us feel cared for are looking toward a few reliable facts. Such as we all die and we all have no idea what happens next. Taxes can fall into this but nobody wants to talk about that.
As someone who people come to for answers it all makes sense. For this time of year, leaves are dying and we’re all made of the same stardust and we have to relate. The earth shifts and we shift. We also quiet down a bit, have more time to listen and feel and so other energies are easy to embrace.
But the one thing I got out of the conversation was that I noticed a few other things about this time of year. As someone who finds themselves more comfortable with the warmer seasons it surprised me. This time of year I have a creative boost. A charge of all the inspiring ideas and eccentricities that sit in my brain feel tangible. Doable. The line from point A to point B in any creative endeavor feels obvious, easy and powerful——not unlike the easy optimism of summer.
I spoke to a few other creatives about my own experiences and they also said the books get written, the walls they’ve hit in projects get solved/dissolved—-the “get it done” for survival transfers to the creative brain.
The canning and gathering for the cold also extends to keeping the cerebral wiring bright to last until it gets lighter earlier.
The connection the creative process has to psychic work shows itself in this space as well. I find easy confidence and obvious existence of the work this time of year.
During readings it is more often easier to work with people through their creative blocks. It is as though the ground is softer, the weeds are not as tall.
It is though we are easier to move with nature even if we’d rather not touch it due to the cold.
